How to be Happy When... You're addicted to junk food.

You ever wish you could press a button and stop eating the foods that have you totally hooked, like candy, cakes, burgers and more? They are ruining your skin, your teeth, your health and your waistline, but you just can't stop eating them.  If so, you'll love this "How to be Happy Success Story #2"

How to be happy: Success Story
I had a client who came to me with an addiction to chocolate chip cookies.  Don't laugh, it's true!  She described herself as an emotional eater, which means that she turns to food for comfort.  One of her favorite comfort foods was chocolate chip cookies.  She was gaining more weight than she was comfortable with and wanted to start with getting the chocolate cookies out of the way for good.

What I did
I listened to her tell stories and describe her feelings and connection to the chocolate chip cookies.  This was an important step for us to be sure that the chocolate chip cookies didn't represent a deeper issue that should be addressed.  After investigative conversation, I concluded that the cookies were a simple matter of preference (and a minor addiction) that could be cleared with a technique called mapping across.  To keep it simple I reprogrammed her mind believe that chocolate chip cookies tasted horribly.

To make sure the procedure worked, I had prepacked chocolate chip cookies with me and asked my client to bite into it.  She was skeptical, then she hesitated.  She finally shoved it into her mouth, got queasy and spit the whole thing out into her bare hands.  Her head shot up in shock and she stared right into my eyes and said, "What did you do to me?"  It was great!

The whole process (talking and mapping across) took about an hour.  And as of today (May 2013) it's been about 1 year since she's eaten a chocolate chip cookie.  Phenomenal!

Mapping across is best with the help of an NLP practitioner, but there another technique that could help. It's called a swish pattern and it can weaken your addition bit by bit - and sometimes very quickly. It's a visualization activity that Tony Robbins demonstrated at one of his early seminars, here is a YouTube Video to guide you.  Try it and let me know how it goes.
