Year after year you, and almost everyone else in the world, make vows, promises....resolutions, why?
...Because human beings have an instinct and need to evolve.

The truth is that there is probably nothing wrong with the goals you've set but everything wrong with the way you are going after them. You may want to ask yourself if your current mindset/attitude is reflecting high self esteem or low self esteem because it will make a huge difference in achieving your goals this year?

The truth is our mind is like a built-in time machine and each moment we get to decide where to spend our time. If you are constantly visiting or living in the worst times of your past, it's time to take responsibility for shifting your focus.
Sure, the hurt may have been caused by someone else and is therefore, their "fault," but the truth is that the infraction may have been there fault 20 years ago..or even 30 minutes ago, but every moment from then on that you select that time/memory to revisit in your mind, is now your responsibility.
Improved self esteem and confidence will help you learn to control your journey through the time machine of your mind. You'll be utterly shocked and amazed to see what this subtle shift alone does for your ability to stay optimistic, focused and totally successful at meeting your goals.
2) Know your power to choose
Many of us walk around like feeling totally powerless, but it's simply not so! As I wrote about in my book: Through the Hard Times: Volume 1," you are a being with pure loving power coursing through you from the source of the entire Universe! It's time to harness it and live the life of happiness, joy, peace and fulfillment that you were always meant to live. A simple shift in the way you are thinking and feeling about yourself (self esteem) will help!

3) Focus on positive forward movement
Imagining your future can feel like a delightful dream or a traumatic nightmare. Which is it for you? The way you view your own future is again dependent on your self esteem.
So, here's the trick: you have to be willing to dream big, positive, "impossibly amazing" dreams if you want to see them come true. I love discussing this at my seminars and I'll give you a taste of some of my fun perspective changers here.
Almost everything that we see, touch, taste, hear, etc, began as a thought, an idea, a dream and it is the pursuing of the dream that plucks it from the imagination and creates it into the physical form that we can all experience.
So positively pursue, think about, align with your dreams and goals constantly in order to help them to translate into your physical experience. There have been times in everyone's life (in different areas of our lives) when your self esteem feels really high and they believed in themselves and what they could accomplish in that particular scenario. The same is true for you so, I can guarantee that you have done this before. Now it's time to learn to do it again and again, on purpose!
4) Watch your mouth
Never underestimate the power of your words, intentions and attitudes. Here's what I mean. Many of us claim that we are setting goals but when you really investigate the focus and the language, what you'll find is a long list of "I don't wants"... where's that going to get you? That doesn't sound like high self esteem, instead it seems more like complaining than goal setting.

5) Discuss the bigger truth
"I'm just keeping it real." I started one of my teen retreats at the Ritz-Carlton, Ft. Lauderdale with these words. The life-changing point that it lead me to was that many of us discuss, document and hold tight to the negativity in our lives. We talk about all the bad stuff and defend our right to do so under the guise of simply "being real." But here's a wake up call folks.... THE GOOD STUFF IS REAL TOO!
How many times have you gone through a full 24 hour day, that was pretty smooth until one girl in school or one guy at work says something totally rude and unacceptable? Sure, it happens to all of us. Well, calling everyone you know so you can discuss this infraction will only help to upset you...fuel your rage and of course ruin your whole day, not to mention also making you question yourself and challenge your own self esteem.
Can you believe that? ....Your whole 24 hours of having a bed to sleep in, a roof over your head, waking up healthy, having food to eat, clothes to wear, all family members alive and well, a job to go to and/or an opportunity to have an education, a few laughs on TV, a flirty look from that person you like or love, A/C or heat, transportation and on and on the list of blessings go ..BUT NO! None of it matters in the face of a 15-second moment of rudeness from one silly person.
I would love to share my "Thanksgiving Table Analogy" here to drive this home, but I like to save that one for my live seminars. So for now just remember, although facing the truth of the bad stuff is "keeping it real"... it's even REALER to own up to the good stuff in your life too! ..And once you have the self esteem and confidence to shift this focus, a mental filter goes into place that helps you to become more open and aware of your opportunities for even greater success....and more good stuff!
*Bonus Tip*
There is an undesirable pang of physical pain from hunger and thirst when we stop feeding our bodies. The discomfort of filth overwhelms us if we are unable to cleanse our bodies regularly. The torture of air-deprived lungs cannot be easily described or imagined. Our need to refuel our bodies is constant. Breathing is constant, eating is repeated several times per day and bathing feels most comfortable to most of us when done daily.
When the need to feed and cleanse cannot be satisfied the feeling of filth and hunger can be crippling - fortunately many of us will never know JUST how crippling it can be!
The point is that when it comes to feeding your mind and your soul, be prepared to feed and fuel often otherwise the same crippling effects become evident. Depression, sadness, hopelessness, confusion, weakness, despair... many times are the pangs of pain from an unfed and uncleaned spirit!
The pure positive power your mind and soul have to stay focused and achieve your goals require you to cleanse old negative habits and consume positive empowering practices several times every single day forever...just like eating, drinking, bathing and putting gas in our vehicles. So on the days that you find yourself on "E," feeling exhausted, defeated, powerless and empty. Recognize it as a time to feed. It is not the end, you have not lost, you should not give up... it is simply your soul asking to be fed! Find a steady source of joy, happiness, positive focus and feed it well!
